PaymentKit has launched billing infrastructure that switches between payment processors when one fails. The service routes transactions through Stripe, Paddle, and other processors, moving to a backup when the primary is unavailable.
The approach addresses the risk builders face when a processor goes offline. Stripe's last major outage in March 2019 left merchants unable to take payments for several hours. Smaller services have had longer disruptions.
The top comment on Product Hunt questions whether the added complexity is worth it for most products. "Unless you're doing serious volume, the engineering overhead of managing multiple processors probably costs more than you'd lose in a rare outage," they argue. Another commenter counters that the real value is in avoiding the reputational damage of a checkout that does not work when customers try to pay.
The service is aimed at products with recurring billing, where an outage during a renewal cycle means lost revenue that may not be recovered. PaymentKit does not publish pricing on its Product Hunt page.
