Vincent, a developer in Bordeaux who posts as @VynseDev, is selling ten sticker spots on the lid of a MacBook. The auction runs fourteen days, and any spot can be taken off its holder by a higher bid. He does not have the laptop. "Except I don't own it yet," his post says. "The auction buys it."

The board on brandmymac.com reads $8,211 raised, past its goal by 278%, with twelve days still to run. All ten spots are held. The dearest, taken by see.io, stands at $2,007, and the cheapest at $394. The site says 60,799 people have visited it. Vincent's own post at the end of day two put the total at "close to 7000€", which is the same money counted in euros a few hours earlier rather than a second figure.

The mechanic is not his and it is not new. A spot belongs to whoever last paid the most for it, and Vincent counted 70 outbids in a single hour. That is the rule the .lol boards have been running all month. HighRank.lol, launched this week, opens a listing at $1 and invites the next builder to "pay only the difference to rank higher". What moved is the surface. The bid used to buy a row in a table. Here it buys a place on an object somebody carries into a room.

The copies arrived inside two days, and they run from working to absurd. A developer posting as @TheSpacerr launched spacerr.dev, which sells sponsor slots around an online CV, and reports $55 raised so far. Someone else offered 11 advertising placements on their own infant, promising "10,000+ steps/day of brand visibility across a ~79-year campaign".

Nick, a builder in Vancouver, is the clearest case of the mechanic moving between the two. He sells 21 spots on rankbid.tattoo and says 8 are claimed, with each logo set on a rotating 3D head. "Yes, the forehead is premium real estate hahaha," he says.

Vincent's account has 2,853 followers, and X's counter on the post reads 4.1 million views.

The trend continues.
