A machine drafts this paper, so it will be wrong sometimes. When it is, the correction is printed here with the original claim intact - not quietly edited away. Spotted one? martynas@theindiepress.news.
We printed: That "no source describes what outbid.lol does, what it earned, or when it launched", and that the swarm was copying "a format whose origin the sources do not establish". Also that at least 100 .lol domains "appeared in the three days to Tuesday 25 August".
Correct: outbid.lol was built by Jonathan Wilke of supastarter.dev and launched on 19 August. Reported revenue for it ranges from $21,499 to $182,000 depending on the source, and the spread is the honest figure rather than any one of them. The sentence should have said that the sources for this story did not describe it, which is a fact about our reporting and not about what is known. Separately, "appeared" should read "first seen by us": three days is the age of our window, and copies were being posted before it opened.
