RankBid claims $2,010 in 30 days and WorldMap.lol launched on Product Hunt, but the mechanic they are copying is unclear and the revenue figures are unverified.
At least 100 domains ending in .lol appeared in the three days to Tuesday 25 August, all copying a paid leaderboard mechanic. The mechanic is simple: pay to move higher on a list. RankBid's own page says "Bigger bid. Better position." and credits "outbid.lol" as its inspiration.
RankBid claims $2,010 in the last 30 days. WorldMap.lol, which invites users to "put your startup on the map", launched on Product Hunt with 195 votes and 39 comments. Both are among the 100 .lol domains first seen by us in that window.
The swarm includes at least 21 domains ending "-bid": hivebid.lol, buildbid.lol, leaderbid.lol, rankbid.lol and 17 others. Another 13 share the prefix "out-": outrace.lol, outbuilt.lol, outmap.lol and ten more. Revenue claims across the copies range from $0 to $2,010 in 30 days, but none of the figures are verified and the sources do not say how they were measured.
The mechanic being copied is named in RankBid's page text but not explained. The page says "Inspired by outbid.lol" and "Built by @Nick_333ch", and the landing page itself displays "$0 made 0 watching 0 visitors since launch" alongside the pitch. No source describes what outbid.lol does, what it earned, or when it launched.
The swarm is monetizing a format whose origin the sources do not establish. The copies are named after something, but what that something is and whether it worked are both unresolved.
